Keeping many databases in one postgresql server

I want to use many, say 2048, databases in a single postgresql server, as logical shards. The idea is, when we will split to new logical shards, to take half the logical shards and put them on a new physical server. Is 2048 a big number for postgresql, or will it be able to handle them ok, assuming enough server resources?
