Upgrade SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2012 - recommend server configuration [on hold]

Currently running SQL Server 2005 I talked to the director and he is on board with upgrading to SQL Server 2012 SP2. What type of server configuration would be the best for using SQL Server 2012 SP2?
