Timeout expired error when database is being backed up in SQL server 2012

We have daily full backup scheduled at 8.30 AM. We are getting Timeout expired when we try to access a web page using the database being backed up. The web page has several select and few update/insert statements Does backup effect this? How to identify and fix this issue?
