Replicated databases acorss locations; delay in application

I have a replicated instance of database on different locations different SANs which is utilized for running a vendor supported application. However, I notice that there is a significant delay between locations. I.E. one location is faster than this other. Would this likely be purely hardware related. If so, what are some of the things that I should look at?
