Mounting a Windows 8 drive onto a Windows Server 2012 Essentials server

I have a Windows 8.1 Pro PC that I need to install Windows Server 2012 Essentials over the top of. The PC has two discs - the system disc will obviously be wiped with the install but can I just mount the data drive straight onto the server once it's installed?
