Is mysql cluster a viable choice for real time data availability when it comes to data in high volumes (petabytes)?

I've been reading a lot of articles promoting MySql Cluster as a big data storage solution for real time applications, one of which is this one .

But as I went through the Mysql Cluster docs, I saw a specific phrase that stated :

The maximum number of data nodes is 48

and

The total maximum number of nodes in a MySQL Cluster is 255.

This seems a pretty big limitation when it comes to big data analytics applications.

What I understand from the above is that Mysql Cluster cannot have more than 48 machines for data nodes. So the scale out stops at 48 and from there you go on scaling upwards?

Am I misunderstanding how Mysql Cluster works? Will Mysql Cluster support thousand of data nodes (using comodity hardware) like other big data storage solutions offer (like hadoop) ?
